Bi-fold gates may not be the first solution that comes to mind when thinking about securing your premises, but in the right circumstances they can be a compelling option. For organisations where speed of dispatch is critical, such as distribution and logistics companies and emergency services, the ability to get vehicles into and out of your site quickly can be a game-changer.
You’ll find that folding safety gates are faster and more responsive than traditional swing or sliding gates, as their design allows them to open and close in a matter of seconds. This makes them particularly suitable for entry points where high volumes of traffic need to enter or leave your site continuously, as you can control access for individual vehicles without impeding the flow of traffic.
When your bi-folding gates are closed, they create a seamless barrier that can be the same height as the surrounding fencing—impossible to crawl under, and difficult to climb over. This makes them more secure than rising arm barriers, which are typically designed to stop vehicles, but may be more vulnerable to pedestrian intruders.
Compared to conventional swing gates, bi-fold gates require less clearance to open and close, freeing up valuable space on your premises. You can also use them in situations where sliding gates are not an option because there is not enough lateral space for a gate to retract into.
To comply with UK law and industry best practices, you need to be sure that your bi-fold gates have been rigorously tested and certified to meet appropriate quality and safety standards.
PAS 68 is a specification from the British Standards Institute that classifies the performance of gates under vehicle impact. Heras B937 bi-fold gates have been fully tested to both PAS 68:2010 7500/68KMH and 7500/80KMH standards.
UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking, based on the stringent European CE mark standard, is becoming mandatory for all electric gate installations in the UK. All Heras bi-fold gates are fully compliant with these standards.
