Premier League football club – North of England

Project at a Glance:

Project: Premier League football club
Location: North West England
Sector: Sports stadia
Heras products: Stadia turnstiles

Project Overview

As part of a large project to expand its stadium, a Premier League football club added a new tier to an existing stand to increase the matchday capacity of the ground by 13% – for which it required 32 new turnstiles.

The Challenge

Heras had previously installed all 90 turnstiles at the stadium and has a direct relationship with the club going back many years. As well as designing and installing the new turnstiles on this project, it also maintains and services the existing turnstiles annually during the closed season each summer.

The football club specified Heras turnstiles as part of its stand development, and Heras acted as a subcontractor to a construction company.

However, continuity was the key to delivering this project when a new contractor took over after the original contractor went into administration.

The Approach

As with every project, Heras has a ‘safety-first’ mantra. This was at the heart of every aspect of the planning and installation of the project from start to finish. This culture comes right from the top of the company and cascades down so that every member of the team in the UK (as well as all the other European territories in which Heras operates) embraces safe working practices, making them an integral part of every aspect of Heras’s operations.

The Solution

The solution was simple – the Premier League football club wanted Heras stadia turnstiles, as they were assured of their quality, reliability, durability and longevity. Heras designed and installed 32 full-height stadia turnstiles, which had an automated ticketing system incorporated within each one.

It also introduced three speed lanes to create a VIP entrance.

The Result

Acting as a subcontractor did not affect Heras’s ability to install the turnstiles on time and on budget.

The installation of the turnstiles means the capacity of the entire stadium has increased by 13%.

The Products

All the turnstiles installed were Heras stadia turnstiles – and all 32 were painted in the club’s colours.

Comments

Heras’ Head of Install, Graham England, said: “Keeping fans safe is the top priority of all UK football clubs, and secure but efficient turnstiles at their grounds are a key part of that. Having previously worked with the club by installing 90 turnstiles, we knew exactly the specification required on this stand expansion project – and the 32 new turnstiles look just as good as the existing ones in the club’s colours. We help the club to ensure the turnstiles stay in top shape by servicing and maintaining them every summer.”
