Heras helps build the world’s largest sea lock

Heras helped build the largest sea lock in the world. A new sea lock has been built at the entrance to the North Sea Canal at IJmuiden in the Netherlands. The lock provides access to the Amsterdam port region.

The IJmuiden sea lock is 500 metres long, 70 metres wide and 18 metres deep. Heras provided the fencing and gates for the entire lock area for this project. This is a steel mesh fence according to a specific design that provides effective security and meets the aesthetic requirements of the area.

A Dutch contractor consortium was commissioned by the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Dutch: Rijkswaterstaat) to build a new sea lock in the North Sea Canal at IJmuiden, located between the existing Noordersluis and the Middensluis locks. The IJmuiden sea lock is the ‘largest lock in the world’.
